Call for Submissions

Continuing our tradition since 2004, we are pleased to invite you to the upcoming CEMS research seminar on Supply Chain Management and Logistics. The seminar welcomes a variety of research methods, including quantitative modeling (stochastic, deterministic, simulation), empirical studies, and qualitative and conceptual approaches. We encourage submissions that address timely and relevant questions in supply chain management and logistics, with clear implications for research and/or practice.

We aim to foster an open atmosphere for discussing a wide variety of ideas, methods, and results from different perspectives within supply chain management and logistics, whether your research is at an early stage or already well developed. The seminar is particularly aimed at PhD students and junior researchers, who can discuss their research, ask open questions, and receive constructive feedback from fellow PhD students, and junior and senior faculty. The best PhD student presentation will be awarded a prize.

The informal environment and ample opportunity for sports activities support the other main objective of the seminar to meet international colleagues for interesting discussions and networking.

In order to reflect different stages of research progress we have decided to split the contributions into three main categories.

CAT 1: Early Research Stage: 
For first- and second-year PhD students who would like to present and discuss the background, motivation, and initial ideas of a research project.

CAT 2: Intermediate Research Stage: 
For those who intend to present and discuss selected findings and discuss work in progress. 

An extended abstract of up to two pages is expected for all categories. All page limits are based on our template, which can be downloaded below. To foster fruitful discussions, authors are encouraged to include questions or topics they would like to discuss with the conference attendees.

After final registration, PhD students will be matched with a senior seminar participant to receive more detailed feedback on their submission. Prior to the seminar, participants may submit a more detailed research description or draft paper to facilitate these individual feedback sessions.   

Presentation sessions will be organized separately for the two categories. The specific time slot for each presentation will be determined after the submission stage closes, based on scheduling constraints and the number of submissions. Each slot will consist of both a presentation and a discussion.

Note: Please clearly state which category your submission belongs to upon submitting your abstract. The organizers reserve the right to reassign a submission to the other category if they see a better fit.
 

Abstract Submission

Please submit your abstract together with your registration via the link below. Please use our template and make sure to provide the requested information. We kindly ask you to pay attention to the 2-page limit.

Registration

Please register via the following link: https://uni-koeln.sciebo.de/apps/forms/s/E6RF8639xRARq2WsDm8Lc4tB. The registration fee covers attendance at the program, coffee breaks, and conference dinner. Other drinks and lodging costs are not included. The registration fee must be transferred to a bank account in advance.

For the registration fee, the following cancellation fees will apply:

  • Any time prior to the seminar: 0% of the registration fee
  • No-show: 100% of the registration fee

Program Information

The agenda will be posted shortly after the review of the submissions is complete. Each day, three sessions with a specific focus will be held, with ample time between sessions to facilitate outdoor activities, socializing, and/or working.

The welcome session will take place on Wednesday evening. We plan to have sessions in the morning (starting Thursday), late afternoon, and evening. All presentations will be in English.

Accommodation

Haus Bergkranz is the heart of our research seminar. It hosts all academic sessions and serves as the central hub for informal discussions, networking, and socializing – often the most valuable part of the event. We therefore strongly encourage participants to stay at Haus Bergkranz. To keep the seminar highly accessible and affordable, it offers simple, cozy, and budget-friendly accommodation. Because of the venue's traditional layout and limited capacity, most participants will stay in shared rooms, and we cannot guarantee private single or double rooms. There is no need to book a room, as they will automatically be assigned. At Haus Bergkranz, the following cancellation fees will apply:

  • Until November 15, 2026: 0% of the accommodation fee
  • Until December 31, 2026: 40% of the accommodation fee
  • Until January 14, 2027: 60% of the accommodation fee
  • Later: 100% of the accommodation fee

Participants who require a private single or double room, or who prefer a higher standard of hotel comfort, are welcome to book accommodation at one of the nearby hotels Montana
(www.hotelmontana.de) and Alpahotel Walserstuba (www.walserstuba.at). 

Full details on accommodation, booking, and payment procedures will be provided with the acceptance letter of your contribution.
